“And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.” Luke 2:25
When we think of Simeon, we tend to think of him as an old fogey who twiddled his thumbs until the arrival of Jesus. But the Bible makes it clear that Simeon
was far from washed up, decrepit or of no use to society. We read that he was moved by the Spirit, the Spirit was upon him, and that it was the Spirit who revealed to him that he would meet Jesus. Does that sound like a man who was out of the loop spiritually or otherwise?
Simeon had a job to do and a purpose in life, and he did it when he held Jesus in his arms, blessed him and spoke to Mary about the future. Remind yourself that the Holy Spirit is not finished with you yet.
You still have much to contribute to the world around you, just as Simeon did. Listen to the Holy Spirit and let the Spirit move you to bless others, to celebrate God’s plan of salvation, to hold young and old alike in your arms and to watch for the coming of Jesus. When you channel the Holy Spirit, as Simeon
did, it’s like recharging your batteries.
Lord, help me to power up through the Holy Spirit to accomplish the work you would have me do. Amen.
Do: Hold someone in your arms and bless them.
